10 Most Brutal Fights In Invincible
Superhero stories have never been strangers to violence, but Invincible takes the concept to an entirely new level. Since its debut, the Prime Video animated series has distinguished itself from more conventional genre fare by refusing to treat its characters as invulnerable action figures. More often than not, the heroes in the show get brutally injured, innocent people become collateral damage, and even a seemingly straightforward fight can end with devastating consequences.
While Invincible has a lot of great attributes, the show's graphic violence is one of its most defining qualities. Over the course of the series, Invincible has topped its most memorable fights, with each one bringing a new level of destruction. Several of these brutal fights push the show’s characters beyond their limits, while others demonstrate why the Viltrumites are the most feared beings in the universe. Invincible’s lineup of powerful characters has resulted in some of the greatest fights that put even The Boys’ gruesomeness to shame.
The Guardians Vs. The Lizard League
Season 2, Episode 5
The Lizard League is often treated as a joke in Invincible, but they proved that even they can dish out some brutal blows. The Guardians initially approach the mission expecting to easily deal with the Lizard League, a villainous group that doesn't appear to be on the same level as some of the threats they have encountered. But a fight that should have been a straightforward mission turned into a bloodbath, with the Guardians suffering devastating losses.
The Lizard League's attack catches the Guardians off guard, and the situation rapidly spirals out of control. Instead of the heroes effortlessly stopping the villains, the Guardians suddenly find themselves fighting for their lives. The result of the battle is not only gruesome but also unexpected, as the Lizard League aren’t even among Invincible’s most powerful villains.
Omni-Man Vs The Guardians Of The Globe
Invincible Season 1, Episode 1
Omni-Man vs. the Guardians of the Globe is arguably the fight that immediately established Invincible as a superhero story willing to go places other shows wouldn't. At the beginning of the series, Omni-Man is presented as a good guy, with the Guardians of the Globe being depicted as a top-tier superhero team. They have fought alongside Omni-Man and are among the few heroes capable of posing a serious challenge to major threats.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the battle between Omni-Man and the Guardians is how quickly the power balance becomes obvious. The Guardians are among Earth's strongest superheroes, and initially viewers might expect them to put up a serious fight. Instead, Omni-Man exploits their weaknesses and uses his physical strength to incapacitate them. In less than five minutes, the members of the Guardians are torn apart and mutilated beyond recognition. The only one who lives to tell the tale is the Immortal, but even he needed time to recover from the devastating injuries Omni-Man inflicted on him.
Invincible And Omni-Man Vs. Viltrumites On Thraxa
Invincible Season 2, Episode 4
When Nolan left Earth after almost killing his son, audiences anticipated his return and what it would mean for the planet. At that point in the series, Omni-Man was the only pure Viltrumite we had seen, but things changed when Mark traveled to Thraxa under the impression that he was going to help just to meet his father again. A Viltrumite warrior does not simply abandon his post because he had a change of heart; thus, there was hell to pay when the conquerors discovered what one of their most promising members had done.
Even with the experience that Mark had gained since season 1, he and Nolan were vastly outmatched against Lucan, Vidor, and Thula. The fight is brutal, and each Viltrumite is giving it their all, except Mark, who kept holding back until Nolan made him realize that they were fighting to the death. The speed and force behind the attacks are strangely beautiful and prove that the Viltrumite Empire is far more frightening than viewers initially understood.
Allen The Alien And Battle Beast Vs. The Viltrumite Henchmen
Season 3, Episode 4
After Nolan lost the fight against the Viltrumites on Thraxa, he was arrested and sentenced to death. On his way to planet Viltrum, he meets Allen the Alien, who hatched a plan for their escape. As Nolan was fighting to leave his prison, Allen allied with Battle Beast, and the two of them massacred the Viltrumite henchmen.
Battle Beast has a thirst for blood that makes Conquest look normal. So when he was given the chance to run into battle again, he accepted it with relish. With Allen and Battle Beast working together, the Viltrumite henchmen didn’t even see what hit them. The two killed nearly everyone on the ship, with Nolan finishing off his Viltrumite guards.
Oliver Vs The Mauler Twins
Season 3, Episode 3
As a half-Viltrumite, half-Thraxan, Oliver got his powers earlier compared to Mark. With his brother and father being superheroes, the youngest Grayson was eager to walk the same path, hence why he decided to follow Mark as he was fighting the Mauler Twins. Though inexperienced, Oliver quickly proved to the brilliant villains that he was not to be overlooked.
The twins did have the upper hand during the first few minutes of their fight, but Oliver eventually began to fight back, and he showed no mercy. By the time Oliver was done with the Mauler Twins, they were unrecognizable. He ran through them and was covered with blood and gore, proving that, unlike his brother, he wasn’t afraid of killing if he felt it was necessary.
Invincible Vs. Angstrom Levy
Season 2, Episode 8
The villains in Invincible are often defined by the strength they wield, but Angstrom Levy proved to be different in that he is one of the most brilliant characters in the series. During most of the show’s second season, Invincible had no idea that Angstrom was determined to kill him and all he held dear — until the finale, when he discovered the villain was holding Oliver and Debbie captive.
Invincible is physically stronger than Levy, but he isn’t smarter, so the fight between them was immediately unfair. Levy sent Mark through various dimensions where he had to fight several creatures, including dinosaurs, until the hero finally managed to escape. Once Levy was in Invincible’s hands, it was over for him, as he was beaten to a pulp and then murdered in cold blood.
Invincible Vs Omni-Man
Invincible Season 1, Episode 8
Despite Invincible’s pilot establishing that Nolan wasn’t a good guy, it’s still shocking to see him turn the same level of brutality and violence he used on the Guardians on his son. As a Viltrumite, Omni-Man was sent to Earth to prepare the planet for his race’s invasion, a plan which he thought he could rope Mark into. When Invincible refused to join his father in essentially making humans slaves of the Viltrumites, father and son came to blows.
At that point in the story, Mark was a fledgling superhero who stood no chance against his father, a Viltrumite warrior who had been training since birth. To say that the fight between Omni-Man and Invincible was devastating would be underselling it. Nolan pummeled his son to a pulp and only let him live because his paternal guilt prevented him from delivering the final blow.
Battle Beast Vs The New Guardians Of The Globe
Season 1, Episode 5
Following the death of the original Guardians of the Globe, a new team, led by Robot, was assembled to take their place. Unfortunately, the new Guardians did not have the strength or coordination of their predecessors, which is why Battle Beast was able to lay waste to them. While most fights in Invincible are brutal because both sides take enormous punishment, Battle Beast vs. the New Guardians was different in that he was barely threatened.
The Guardians desperately try to fight back, but their attacks have little effect. Battle Beast, meanwhile, dishes out devastating injuries with every attack and is left unsatisfied by the lack of opposition from the Guardians. The battle between them eventually concludes with Kate's duplicates dead, Invincible torn apart, and Robot and the rest of the team severely injured.
The Coalition Of Planets Vs The Viltrumites
Invincible Season 4, Episodes 6, 7, And 8
The Viltrumites' philosophy is essentially survival through domination, and so they approach warfare with sheer brutality. When the conquering race fights, they ensure they crush their enemies. While the Coalition of Planets had pretty powerful characters on their side, from Thaedus to Omni-Man, the good guys couldn’t overpower the Viltrumites through strength alone, which led them to find other creative ways of defeating their enemy.
When the showdown begins, the Viltrumites massacre the Coalition of Planets, but they also lose a few people. There’s a lot of violence and bloodshed going around during their fight, with the most powerful characters in the series going head-to-head. However, it is only when Thragg begins fighting that audiences understand what the Viltumites are capable of when they are at their strongest. Thragg is basically invincible; he rips Thaedus’ head off, separates Oliver’s arm from his body, and throws Mark away like a rag doll.
Conquest Vs Invincible
Season 3, Episode 8
Conquest is one of the most terrifying villains in Invincible because he genuinely enjoys breaking his opponent. As one of the oldest and most experienced Viltrumites, Conquest is sent to subdue Earth by any means necessary instead of trying to appeal to Mark’s darker side like Anissa did. Earlier fights in Invincible establish that Viltrumites are incredibly powerful, but Conquest's battle with Mark demonstrates just how horrifying that power can become when used without restraint.
Conquest destroys Mark. He breaks his bones, runs him through buildings, and at some point, the two battle it out in space. The arrival of Atom Eve initially seems like there’s some hope that Invincible will win, but it only makes the fight worse. Although Eve fights back for a few minutes, Conquest’s thirst for blood takes over, and he punches a hole through her jaw and stomach. Mark does walk away from the fight, thanks to Eve’s power blast, but it wasn’t the last time in Invincible that he would have to face Conquest.
