Netflix's 10 Upcoming Anime Shows, Ranked By Excitement
As the years go by, anime is becoming even more popular, thanks to megahits like Attack on Titan, Naruto, and One Piece. Naturally, as the largest streaming platform (in terms of subscribers and titles), Netflix houses quite a remarkable selection of anime that is going to get even better with upcoming additions to its library. Netflix’s own 2026 announcements already include anime titles spanning action, romance, fantasy, and comedy, while its 2027 lineup is set to bring even bigger names to the platform, including manga adaptations, returning favorites, as well as new projects.
With so many anime projects competing for attention, not every series carries the same level of anticipation, but they still have intriguing stories that anime lovers can’t wait to sink their teeth into. Fans can look forward to THE ONE PIECE, a brand-new adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's manga from WIT Studio that starts the story again from the East Blue saga, while series such as Blue Eye Samurai and Delicious in Dungeon are also set to continue with new seasons.
LEGO® ONE PIECE
September 29, 2026
One Piece has seen many iterations over the years, so it's not always easy to be excited about new releases. However, this upcoming series is unique in that it will take the major events from Netflix's first two live-action seasons and recreate them with LEGO characters.
LEGO® ONE PIECE is framed through Usopp's perspective. He recounts the Straw Hats' adventures to the newest member of the crew, Tony Tony Chopper, taking viewers back through their journey from the East Blue and into the Grand Line. One Piece has to stay fresh in some way, and using Usopp’s POV is a great approach because he is famously known for telling tall tales.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2
October 20, 2026
Apple TV has seemingly done the impossible by bringing William Gibson’s seminal novel, Neuromancer, to life. (We'll see in January 2027.) Netflix is not one to be outshone, as they've decided to continue the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners franchise. The anime was planned as a standalone series, so, of course, it was a bit of a surprise that the story would continue.
Then again, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a critical and audience darling; it makes sense that Netflix would want to expand a story that has captured so many hearts. The anime is based on the video game, meaning there is quite an expansive world for the sophomore season to draw from.
Bass X Machina
November 3, 2026
Westerns and sci-fi are two genres that don’t seem like they gel, but if Firefly taught us anything, it is that they do if executed well. Netflix’s Bass X Machina is set to reimagine the story of one of the most famous lawmen in Westerns, Bass Reeves. Several stories about the gunslinging character have already been told, including a 2023 Taylor Sheridan series, but Bass X Machina is bringing something new to the table.
The series will basically be a steampunk Western, which gives it a huge playground to make something that could become extraordinary. With LeSean Thomas, who is known for his work on Cannon Busters, Yasuke as the show’s creator and Studio Mir (Devil May Cry, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and Skull Island) backing the project, Bass X Machina will undoubtedly be a visually stunning series.
Fool Night
November 26, 2026
Fool Night’s premise is one of the strangest and most unsettling in Netflix's upcoming anime slate. In the distant future, Earth will be plunged into constant winter and darkness after thick clouds block out sunlight. Most of the planet's vegetation has disappeared, creating a catastrophic shortage of oxygen. Humanity's solution is a technology called Transfloration, which implants seeds into people who are close to death and transforms their bodies into plants.
This unusual concept is what makes the upcoming Netflix anime so exciting. There have been countless science fiction anime about ruined civilizations, environmental disasters, and dystopian futures. Fool Night approaches those ideas from an unusual direction. The anime also represents the first-ever collaboration between Sunrise and Shaft, two of Japan's most distinctive animation studios.
Sunrise is famous for franchises such as Gundam and Cowboy Bebop, while Shaft has developed a reputation for highly stylized productions, including Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series. Putting those two studios together for a dark science-fiction story is an unusually interesting creative combination.
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2
January 2027
Blue Eye Samurai was one of Netflix’s best shows of 2023. With multiple awards and 97% and 93% Rotten Tomatoes scores from critics and audiences, respectively, the anime proved that Netflix is upping its game.
The teaser trailer for Blue Eye Samurai season 2 shows Mizu in London, thereby expanding the anime’s world. Netflix has also renewed the show for a third and final season. The sophomore installment is set to premiere in January 2027, with its final season eyeing a 2028 release window. The fact that there is a clear end in sight for Blue Eye Samurai is incredible news, especially because Netflix tends to be a little too trigger-happy when it comes to canceling its shows.
Bride Of The Barrier Master
January 2027
Though most of Netflix's upcoming anime fall into the action, sci-fi, or fantasy genre, there is one particularly exciting romance called Bride of the Barrier Master. Though the anime is a love story, it combines an intriguing fantasy world with its central romance. Bride of the Barrier Master also has a surprisingly deep magical lore that has made its manga a binge-worthy read.
Of course, not every page-to-screen adaptation does its source material justice, but Bride of the Barrier Master has everything needed to draw in audiences. The anime will be produced by Troyca, who are known for their work on Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, and Tōru Kitahata is attached as director.
SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2
January 2027
With millions of copies of the SAKAMOTO DAYS manga sold worldwide, the Netflix anime already had an enormous existing fanbase. So, of course, when it hit the streaming platform’s library, the series was very successful and spent 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10 for non-English series. At the center of the story is Taro Sakamoto, once feared as the greatest hitman in the world. He abandoned the assassin's life after falling in love with Aoi, whom he married, and then settled down to run a small convenience store.
SAKAMOTO DAYS season 1 rose to popularity because of its powerful action sequences, and its sophomore season is promising to follow the same trajectory with its JCC arc. Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in January 2027, and will include a new cast of characters as well as more action, humor, and a look into Sakamoto’s past.
THE ONE PIECE
February 2027
One Piece is one of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world. The live-action show was a hit for Netflix, so it's no wonder that the streamer made the decision to make yet another One Piece series. THE ONE PIECE is not a continuation of the ongoing anime. Instead, it's a reimagining of Eiichiro Oda’s story.
Produced by WIT STUDIO, the studio behind Attack on Titan and Spy x Family, THE ONE PIECE will start from the very beginning of the story with the East Blue saga and will feature most of the characters in the first act, including Nami, Zoro, and then later on, Sanji. It is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix in February 2027.
Though it's easy to see why Netflix is reimagining One Piece, it's also a bit frustrating to watch the same arc over and over again in several iterations. Hopefully, Netflix’s version will have something that sets this anime apart.
Delicious In Dungeon Season 2
October 2027
Delicious in Dungeon is one of the most bizarre TV shows that never got the recognition it deserves. The anime isn’t by any means a straightforward adventure fantasy story, though it features genre trademarks with its inclusion of mages, magic, and monsters. However, Delicious in Dungeon sets itself apart in that instead of killing the monsters and going on their merry way, the heroes eat the monsters they slay.
Delicious in Dungeon is a brilliant series that should be as popular as Critical Role’s Prime Video shows, The Mighty Nein and The Legend of Vox Machina. The characters are beautifully designed, the adventures are exciting, and the culinary storyline is the cherry on top. Hopefully, the upcoming second season will be just as chock-full of adventure as the first.
One Piece Season 3
2027
When Netflix announced they would be creating a live-action One Piece series, the news was met with skepticism. The show, however, became one of the streamer’s biggest series and a great anime live-action adaptation that Netflix renewed for a second and third season. So far, One Piece has covered the East Blue Saga arc as well as the Loguetown and Drum Island arcs.
According to Netflix, One Piece season 3 will cover the beloved Alabasta arc, which will see the Straw Hats aid Vivi in getting her home back. Apart from the storyline, there are plenty of details about the show's upcoming third run to make fans excited, like the announcement of Koza, Toto, and Pell as new characters. Though there isn’t a release date for One Piece season 3, it will likely debut in 2027.
